Today's Short Report and Analysis of Somalia

A Kenyan soldier has been killed in Garissa church, northeastern province of Kenya. Eleven others were also wounded after unknown person lobbed an explosive device into the Church[1].

Somalia Prime Minister has appointed today 10 ministers[2].

Judging from various sites that I have visited, both what appeared to be opponents and supporters, the mood has been generally positive.

Even though some were unhappy because the number was too small to allow various groups to be fully represented within the government.

This may make it bit difficult for the new cabinet to secure parliamentary confidence.  It is probable however, that the parliamentary confidence has already been secured for the cabinet ministers.

Mid level American delegation led by Wind Sherman, the third highest ranking officer in the State Department, tasked with the political affairs of the department, has visited Mogadishu and met with the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. They have discussed number of issues relevant to both countries[3].

Somali parliament has amended yesterday articles within the constitution that allows the president to dismiss the parliament, if certain conditions obtain[4].

They have also amended other articles relating  to formation of parliamentary committees tasked with things like human rights and so on.

This rules out the allegations that has been circulated for a while:  Somali parliament cannot change the constitution.

All articles  that have not been widely agreed by Somali people has to be changed, to allow the constitution to secure popular support for the purpose of passing the referendum, needed to make the constitution more permanent constitution for  Somalia.
