Short Report and Analysis of Somalia

Daily Nation has reported a shoot-out between police and a gunman in Garissa city center. The police have managed to arrest the gunman[1].

In the same article, the daily nation reports only two wounded persons, one of them critically, not as reported by Daily China yesterday, three wounded, two of them critically. This refers to an explosive device thrown at car care center next to a bridge in Biafra, Nairobi. Kenya.

Xinhua reported the death of a man suspected of being Shebab member in Garissa, Kenya[2]. Some locals, however, claim he was running from the scene, and they have demonstrated for him. The matter is under investigation, as claimed by the Garissa county commissioner.

Car backed with explosive devices has exploded outside the Islamic Alliance in Mogadishu, an area close to the Somali parliament building. The area is used the members of parliament as parking areas[3]. A picture of a dead soldier was posted by Jowhar.com, as well as some damaged cars. The site did not post dead pictures of suicide bombers displayed in some other sites when they attempted to bomb the village café in November 3rd, 2012. In any case, the site has reported one dead and three wounded, including a boy who shines people’s shoes.

An explosion took place in fronts of the parliament building, that is a title about a report produced by Shebelle.net today, November 7, 2012[4], concerning an explosion that took place in front of the Islamic Alliance Mosque, not the parliament building, they are close, but the explosion did not take place in front of the parliament building.

BBC Somali Service also takes the path of BBC Somali Service. This is not the first time, BBC Somali service reports mislead their readers[5]. An explosion takes place the parliament is its title for explosion, despite stating in the body of that article that the explosion took place somewhere close to the parliament.  Any body who knows the areas knows that there is street that divides the parliament and the mosque, and the explosion took place in front of the mosque, which has large parking space.

The dead person is said to have been wounded in the explosion, but soldiers who arrived at the scene did not immediately take him to the medical facilities, but debated whether he was a bomber or not, and during this discussion, he died. Kulmiye radio claims that he was a a member of a Somali army, as confirmed by military officials at the scene[6].

I shall wait the assestment of his information as more information becomes available, but his tone appears to be that of exaggerating what has happened.
