An independent Somali Journalist named Hassan Sheikh Nuur,spoke to BBC Somali Service[1] about the situation of lower Shabelle, LS regionsince Somali National Army, SNA assisted by African Union Mission in Somaliaarmy, AMISOM, took much of the region from Shebab, an Al-Qaida linked group.

The journalist stated that the area is generally peaceful,even though assassinations and bombs occasionally take place. People, he stateddid not notice much difference, even though he noted a difference.

He provided some evidence to suggest that people preferredShebab of SNA-AMISOM forces: still Shebab controls some parts of thehinterland, so people travel in that part they control as they travel to othertown of the region and even to other regions, such as Mogadishu. They do thisbecause they say some SNA robs people.

People in the region, he stated, are apolitical: they goabout their business paying less attention to who comes and goes.

He also hinted some developments that took place in the townover last decade: the city has now universities where people go to educatethemselves.

BBC Somali service stated today [2] that bomb has explodedin front of the district of Kismaayo center, Lower Jubba region, LJ; 6 peoplewere wounded by the bomb, five of them were civilians, and four of these werewomen.

The budget that have been approved by the parliament has to be published for public accountability reasons, to prevent from what has happened earlier, when the previous government left, it left with it all the money, so that their bank account was empty; no body knows what they have used the money for?

Mogadishu port and other ports ought to publish their revenues since they are public entities, to hold them accountable.

Numerous sites have reported, including VOA Somali service, that the Members of parliament have allocated for themselves $ 2000 a month stipends and salaries, in a country here the soldier' stipends and salaries us $ 130, given less regularly.

Add this to the fact that recent parliamentary meetings, less than 170 MPs have attended the erratic parliamentary meetings, wheres more than 100 of them, did not come to work and now they have postponed forming committees to start working on many tasks facing the county, until February next year. People know little about this because the parliament does not publish its operations, and thus less susceptible to be held accountable, yet they make more money than people who are dailly facing greater dangers without proper resources to get their work done.
